My challenge for this hop is called Garanimals!!; to be completely honest, though, that would be the name Sandy gave it. ~ I can't steal the credit. So, how easy and fun is this for the first stop??
1. The card must be for a child... no special occasion, just has to be for a kid
2. The card must have an animal on it. As you can see by my cards I have included fish, Winnie the Pooh, and turtles, so even butterflies or birds would be ok.
This is the first time I've posted a card anywhere, so
Here is what I tried. 1 using stamps, 1 using embossing folder, 1 using Cricut, mix in a little cotton fluff, glossy accents and bling, and there you have it! 3 kids cards..with animals!
OK, I just found out how difficult it is to photograph and add pictures of cards! The colors are much brighter, and the cards much cuter then they look here, they really are. Oh, well, I will really have to work on this. Anyone who can point me to where I can learn more, please do!
Blog Candy Alert: in honor of this being my first event, and my first posted cards, and all, I was thinking I should really give a little candy, yes? How about this, leave a comment, (follow if you want..but only if you want!) and Monday at 6pm I will pick a random comment out of the hat and ... drumroll..... send you a little package of goodies that will include some stamps, some ribbon and some other goodies that I come up with.
Sound good? Leave a way for me to reach you for sure!
Y'all come back now, ya hear?
Linda
I am working on getting back to everyone kind enough to leave a comment. We live in an area
greatly affected by the World Trade Center attack ten years ago, and are spending Sunday
in observance.
I enjoy making cards for our heros to send to their children. Your cards are cute!
ReplyDeleteThese are all darling, Linda! I especially like the yellow one with the bunny and turtle hiding in the grass.
ReplyDeleteHi, Linda,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with Sandy more that your blog's name is fabulous. And, what a cute idea for a challenge!
This is also my first blog hop. "Falling for You" will be featured later in the day -- and I am so thrilled to be a hostess for this OWH party. So, I totally understand what you mean by "huge" step!
You mentioned the difficulty in digitally photographing cards. What I've been doing is scanning cards using an All-in-One printer. This has worked well for me. But, I'm sure our fellow card makers will have much better suggestions.
Thanks for hosting!
Linda - what a great challenge and great cards! I love the Pooh one. :)
ReplyDeleteIt IS a big step to do something like this, but well... now we've got you, you're likely hooked. LOL!
Hi Linda, Thanks for being part of the OWH VCMP! You have great card ideas for kids. There is a tutorial for making a light box for photographing cards here:

Great cards! I just figured out I have very little in the way of animals, eek! But I did have fun with this challenge and it was a wonderful way to start my day and start this party. Thank you for hosting! LynnR

ReplyDeleteHi Linda! The code I gave you isnt seeming to work - so I posted it on S&S :) Thanks for hostessing!!
ReplyDeleteHi... I tried to get the code in again and it does not want to work, sorry! Thanks for fixing!
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet cards and a very great challenge!! Thanks for hosting and for the wonderful inspiration!! (LOVE your blog name..story of my life!!)
ReplyDeleteYour cards are all darling and I admire your courage on even starting a blog. I have not even taken that step at all...I figured I am on the computer so much now already that having a blog would keep me there day and night. LOL I think you did a great first though for uploading and taking photos. One thing I learned by being a designer for a company was to crop the photos more and that way one can see the details better. But you will in time learn what is best for you.
ReplyDeleteYour cards turned out wonderful, thanks for sharing your awesome creativity with us!
ReplyDeletePictures take practice and a little adjusting with your photo editing software and you're on your way. I would suggest making your card pictures on your blog as large as you can to showcase them.
Thank you for bringing us this first challenge today!
these are so cute! i'm gonna have to pull out my 'create a critter' cartridge and get started!!
ReplyDeleteI love the animal theme? Very cute!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first Blog hop! I am new to blog hopping and at first I have to admit, I was intimidated, but knowing you and a few others are new to this, gives me inspiration to create my own blog and post my work too! Thanks for sharing and I like your pooh card a lot! I look forward to following your blog!

Hi Linda - I am so glad I found this VCMP - my first one, though I participated in Splitcoaststampers' Virtual Stamping Weekends before. Look forward to playing! I like your challenge, and your cards. Thanks for the chance to win blog candy too! Happy Stamping!
ReplyDeleteI like all your cards, Linda, but I LOVE your Pooh card. And I completely understand what you mean about taking pictures. I have the same problem.
ReplyDeleteGreat cards!! And great challenge!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the first posting of your cards. It gets easier as you experiment. Thanks for the challenge. Hope to play.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun idea for a challenge.. Now I need to get to stamping.. thanks for the challenge. blessings ~ Pam

ReplyDeleteGreat challenge! Super cute name...sounds like me as well! Too hard to pick a favorite...they all have great "kid" colors! TFS!!!

I love the fishbowl card. I have to check to see if I have any animal stamps or photos. This is my first time at a VCMP and am planning to play along, even though I might not get photos posted. Thanks for being the first stop!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet card-- I love the fishbowl you created! I hope to get some cards completed tonight--that's for a great challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a wonderful challenge, Linda!! I loved all of your beautiful samples.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being in your first hop! I've never even gotten around to starting a blog. I already spend to much time on the computer. I don't want to take any more time away from my studio time!(gotta keep those OWH cards flowin'!) I think your cards are great! Some lucky kid will love 'em!

Congrats on your first card post. Fun designs! Try taking pictures during the day using natural light. Also, a craft lamp such as the Ott-Lite with a daylight bulb helps, too. I got an Ott-Lite knock-off at Home Depot for $20 or $25, and I added energy saving daylight bulbs to my ceiling fan light in my scrap room. Both have helped. Good luck!

Very fun and cute cards! I have always loved to make cards for kids. I used to make all the cards for my son's friends birthdays, but now he makes them himself.

Hi Linda! I am getting a slow start on the VCMP this weekend. Better late than never I guess. :D I love your blog title and I am very proud of you for making your first huge step! Watch out, it can be so much fun! Photographing cards can be tricky. I struggle with it myself. Especially when my camera is running low on batteries and it's getting dark so there is no good natural light and the cat is in the way and and and. . . :) I can tell you that literally everything I have learned about making / photographing / sharing / blogging cards was gleamed from all of the ladies at OWH. There are some fantastic mentors out there. I love them all. I am off to make my animal card. Welcome! Welcome! I will follow you!
ReplyDeleteYour cards are really cute! I know how you feel about taking pictures! I think taking the pictures can be the hardest part about the cards. I always feel awful when I look at my picture and realize something is kind of crooked and I hadn't even noticed until I looked at the picture!! Thank you for sponsoring a challenge. I really enjoyed participating. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first blog hop! I know what you mean about it being difficult to get good pictures. The best ones I've taken are taken outside in good weather, which isn't always possible!
ReplyDeleteThe only cards I've ever made for OWH are for children. My first husband was military and I know how much my children would have loved getting cards from their father.
ReplyDeleteMy fav is the fishie bowl. I have no use for juvenile cards but OWH would really appreciate them. So many of our heroes have children at home. That will be what I will make next. Thank you for thinking of this. You have inspired me.
